How We Research Nail Trends

In short: Our trend reports use Gleamy Nails’ own Google Search Console data: how often each nail look appeared in Google web and image search over the last 28 days, compared with the 28 days before.

The data

Google Search Console reports how many times our pages were shown in search results (impressions) and clicked. Because each of our pages covers one look, a rise in impressions for a page is a rise in searches for that look.

The method

  • Window: the latest 28 days ending two days ago, because Search Console data arrives with a delay, against the 28 days before.
  • Sources: Google web search and Google Images combined.
  • Noise filter: pages with fewer than 50 impressions are left out, so a jump from 3 to 12 is not reported as +300%.
  • New looks: a page with almost no history is marked “new this month” instead of given a huge percentage.

Limits

This is one site’s search data, not the whole market. It is strongest for looks we already cover, and seasonal swings (Halloween in October, red in December) are part of it. We say what the numbers show and do not invent figures beyond them.

Where to find the reports
